Celebrity couple Todd and Rabecca Talbot will host the 17th annual Homes for the Holidays tour, in Vancouver from Nov. 20 to Dec. 5. Running as a virtual event this year, the tour will highlight five luxurious homes decked out for Christmas (including the Talbot's home) in East Vancouver, Burnaby, Coal Harbour, West Vancouver and Whistler.

Ticket proceeds go to Kids Help Phone , a charity that supported over 4.5 million young people last year, up from 1.9 million in 2019.

Kids Help Phone have noticed a sharp rise in outreach from young Canadians since the pandemic started. The charity has ramped up its services for these kids, including a bilingual online mental health support forum and text support.

This year, Kids Help Phone has connected with around 14,700 young people a day, and anticipates it will have supported close to five million interactions with young people by the end of the year. Call and text volumes are both up by 31 per cent every year, says Rebecca Paterson, development officer for Kids Help Phone.

Homes for the Holidays is a great event for design lovers and those who enjoy decorating for Christmas because these homes are transformed into festive wonderlands by interior designers and florists.

One designer who is taking part this year is Negar Reihani of Space Harmony Interiors .

Reihani says she was approached by the Homes for the Holidays team to decorate one of the homes on the tour, and she's happy to be involved.

"Charities with a focus on kids and youth are extra precious because that's an investment in the wellbeing of our future generations. The kid of today will be the adult of tomorrow, so the mental wellbeing of today's generation will have an immediate effect on our future," she says.

The homes, spas, cafes, restaurants and office spaces Reihani has designed in her career, which spans over two decades, are very diverse in style. This is something she's proud of, says the designer, because they reflect the personality of her clients, not herself.

"I'm super proud of the fact that the majority of our clients are returning customers, that's the best seal of approval," she says.

The Coal Harbour townhome that Reihani is decorating for the Homes for the Holidays tour is one that she previously renovated for a young professional couple.

The style of the home is "West Coast Parisian," says the designer, with one of the homeowners being from the West Coast and the other having spent time living in France.

Its interior is a mix of intricate French design combined with the lightness of the West Coast, using bold patterns, beautiful textures and fun colours throughout.

For the tour, Reihani went for simple, organic and free-form lush greenery (fern, eucalyptus) with lots of natural wood accents, handmade craft and decor items.

"This approach brings nature inside, and a gives a sense of cosiness and down-to-earth to the home while letting the original design features shine," she says.

"The greenery and flowers are all masterfully done by Thomas Hobbs Florist."
